Tank mix guidance
Use this guide to determine the general order for adding tank-mix components. Always read and follow the current product label for every component before mixing.
Before adding products
- Wear the PPE required by each product label and by the operator risk assessment.
- Fill the sprayer ¼ to ½ full with clean water, then stop filling.
- Start agitation at the level required by the product labels, ensuring adequate circulation while avoiding excessive agitation and foaming.
- Circulate water through the induction hopper.
- Add each product separately in the order below. Allow each product to disperse before adding the next, and do not allow undiluted concentrates to come into direct contact.
Mixing order
The sequence below is adapted from the 2026 Voluntary Initiative W.A.L.E.S. tank-mix guide. Codes such as WG, WP, SC, CS, SE, EW, EC, OD, and SL describe formulation types; this guide uses WSB to identify water-soluble packaging rather than a formulation type. The numbered sequence also includes product categories that do not have formulation codes. At step 6, "agitate thoroughly" means using the level required by the product labels so that solid products disperse without excessive agitation or foaming. Product-specific label instructions take precedence over this general sequence.
| Order | Product type | Code |
| 1 | Water conditioners | |
| 2 | Water-dispersible granules applied below 100 g/ha | WG |
| 3 | Water-soluble bags | WSB |
| 4 | Water-dispersible granules applied above 100 g/ha | WG |
| 5 | Wettable powders | WP |
| 6 | Agitate thoroughly to disperse all solid products | |
| 7 | Compatibility agents | |
| 8 | Suspension concentrates | SC |
| 9 | Capsule suspensions | CS |
| 10 | Suspo-emulsions | SE |
| 11 | Oil-in-water emulsions | EW |
| 12 | Emulsifiable concentrates | EC |
| 13 | Oil dispersions | OD |
| 14 | Other adjuvants | |
| 15 | Soluble concentrates | SL |
| 16 | Micronutrients, foliar feeds, and biostimulants* |
*Add micronutrients formulated as suspension concentrates with other SC products, rather than as the final tank-mix component, unless the product label states otherwise. For WG products applied at exactly 100 g/ha, follow the product-specific mixing instructions.
Finish filling
- Where the container and product instructions permit, triple-rinse empty containers into the induction hopper or use the sprayer's pressure-rinsing system.
- Allow rinsed containers to drain fully, then store them securely pending disposal.
- Once all products have been added, fill the sprayer with the remaining water required.
- Maintain the level of agitation required by the product labels during filling and application, while avoiding excessive agitation and foaming.
Important
This guidance covers mixing order only. Before mixing, check that every proposed use complies with the conditions on each product label and that no label prohibits the mixture. Following this mixing order, or knowing that components are physically compatible, does not automatically mean that the proposed use is permitted under the relevant product authorisations, crop-safe, or effective. Use an adjuvant only if it appears on the Official List of Adjuvants and the plant protection product label and adjuvant list entry both permit the use.
This general guidance does not replace the current product labels, authorisations, or statutory conditions of use. Always read the label and product information for every component before use, follow the most restrictive applicable instructions and safety precautions, and seek suitably qualified technical advice if the proposed mixture or mixing procedure is unclear.
